A perfect spot for storm watching, this beachfront house on Galiano Island overlooks Georgia Strait. Although the house was architecturally designed, most of the design and details were left to LP Design and her clients to complete. Being a recreational second home it was to have a relaxed, and somewhat whimsical feel to it.
Eco friendly geothermal heating, bluestone counters, bamboo flooring and fir timbers combine with European windows and doors that open fully onto an expansive ocean deck. The outdoor fireplace, exterior columns and living room fireplace were all clad with local sandstone rock.
The owners required very separate guest, main living and entertaining areas, and private master wing. As they entertain family and friends here, the ability to sleep as many people as possible led to the challenge of turning a very narrw room into a fun "bunkhouse" that accomodates a young family of four. A cozy window seat doubles as a daybed for two children in another area of the house.
Custom forged stair railings and post caps, an antique painted Tibetan door hung above the fireplace, watered glass tiles and even a "river" of pebbles and beach glass meandering through the master bathroom floor mix happily with the vintage chandeliers the clients found on their travels.
The crowning touch - upon completion of this house the owners' were married on their own beachfront deck! |
